Cabin 3 at Camp Half-Blood is dedicated to Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses in Greek mythology. Known for his dominion over the oceans and his tempestuous nature, Poseidon embodies raw power and untamed freedom—traits reflected in his demigod children.
At camp, this cabin stands as a beacon of strength, often home to those who command the waves and lead with courage. However, its sparse interior reflects Poseidon’s distant relationship with his children, a reminder of the oath he swore with Zeus and Hades after World War II to sire no more demigods.
Cabin Details
Poseidon’s Cabin, or Cabin 3, is a low, rugged structure made of rough-hewn sea stone, its walls embedded with seashells and coral that shimmer in the sunlight. The roof is lined with trident-shaped ornaments, a nod to Poseidon’s iconic weapon, and the cabin sits just steps from the camp’s beach, where the ocean’s waves whisper nearby.
Inside, the cabin is simple and sparse, with a few bunk beds draped in sea-green blankets and a small fountain in the corner that bubbles with saltwater. The walls are decorated with nautical treasures—pearls, abalone shells, and a trident carved into the stone above the door. The air smells of salt and sea breeze, creating a calming, oceanic atmosphere.

The ocean-inspired exterior of Cabin 3
Built as one of the original cabins at Camp Half-Blood, its sturdy design and proximity to the sea reflect Poseidon’s enduring connection to the ocean and his protective nature over his children.
Powers and Traits
Children of Poseidon inherit extraordinary powers tied to their father’s dominion over the sea:
- Hydrokinesis: They can control water, summoning waves or creating whirlpools. Percy Jackson famously used this power to defeat the Minotaur in The Lightning Thief, dousing it with a tidal wave.
- Communication with Sea Creatures: They can speak with marine life and equines, a gift from Poseidon’s role as the god of horses. Percy often communicates with fish and hippocampi during his quests.
- Earthshaking: Some can cause minor earthquakes, reflecting Poseidon’s title as the Earth-Shaker. Percy unleashed this power in The Battle of the Labyrinth, shaking the ground to escape a trap.
Personality-wise, they’re fiercely independent and loyal, with a deep connection to the sea that often makes them restless on land. Their protective nature drives them to defend their loved ones, though their temper can rival the stormiest oceans.
Famous Residents
Cabin 3’s most famous resident is Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon whose heroism saved the world multiple times. From retrieving Zeus’s lightning bolt in The Lightning Thief to leading the defense of Camp Half-Blood in The Last Olympian, Percy’s courage and loyalty have made him a legend among demigods.
Another notable child of Poseidon is Tyson, Percy’s cyclops half-brother. Though not a demigod, Tyson lived in Cabin 3 during his time at camp, bringing his gentle strength and forging skills to aid Percy in battles like the one against Kronos in The Last Olympian.
